Guest Information

Guests of attendees are a special part of the PCIC Conferences.  The local committee takes great care to help make their time at the conference as pleasant and entertaining as possible by offering a variety of off-site activities while attendees participate in the daily sessions.

 

Who is a Guest?  A guest is a spouse/significant other, friend, or child that is not involved in an electrical industry related occupation.  Authors, co-workers or associates that are involved in any related industries may not be registered as a guest.  Guests must be registered for the conference to attend the Monday Social and to participate in guest-designated functions, such as the guest hospitality room, tours, vendor hospitality events, etc.  Guests are not allowed to attend paper presentations, attendee luncheons or special meal functions (e.g. Authors, YEDS or Emeritus meals). Tickets for attendee luncheons are available for guests to purchase if they chose to do so.

 

The Guest Hospitality Suite: The Guest Hospitality Suite is located in the Hyatt Atrium.

Guest Tours are offered by the Local Committee on Friday September 15, 2017 through Wednesday September 20, 2017 of the conference.  The tours allow the guest to experience local areas of interest.  See below for tour details and pricing.  Tour tickets are non-refundable, but may be exchanged or sold between guests.  Exchange information will be made available in the Guest Hospitality Suite.  If you need further information about any of the tours, please feel free to contact the local guest activities chair, Mr. Rick Paes, via email: rhpaes@ra.rockwell.com.

Complimentary Guest Breakfasts: Registered guests attending the conference are welcome and encouraged to join their partners at the main conference breakfast.  The Guest Hospitality Suite will also be the gathering point for Guest Tours and where information on other activities and area attractions may be found.

Continental breakfast is available to all guests from Monday to Wednesday from 8 to 9:30 am.

Tour 2 – CALGARY: Fly Fishing Lower Bow Float Trip (Tour SOLD OUT)                            8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.      $250.00

 

                                      

The Bow River in Calgary is one of the premier fly fishing locations in the world. Each boat will provide two anglers with the undivided attention of their own guide along with equipment if and as necessary.  Bookings will have to be in groups of 2 and subject to availability so please book early.  In addition to the float, the cost of the tour includes transportation, lunch, non-alcoholic drinks and snacks as well as applicable taxes.  Not included in the tour is the req uired Alberta fishing license which can either be obtained online or at the fly shop. Details will be provided 30 days prior to the trip.  Book early to avoid disappointment.

 

Tour 3 – Golfing                                                                                                          7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.         $100.00

Brewster’s Kananaskis Ranch Golf Course is located near Banff, where the foothills meet the Canadian Rockies, 45 minutes west of Calgary. This regulation course lies at the base of Yamnuska Mountain and provides spectacular views of the mountains.

Tour includes green fees for 18 holes, power cart, lunch and bus transportation to and from the course but does not include rental clubs ($21.00 rental payable at course).   Please note that the bus ride from the Hyatt Downtown Calgary to Brewster’s Kananaskis golf course is 1 hour each way.

 

Tour 4 – Banff and Lake Louise sightseeing tour                                                   7:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.         $95.00

This tour will begin in Calgary and take you westward into the Rocky Mountains with the first stop being Lake Louise. Lake Louise, the famous Chateau of the same name, along with Mount Victoria capped by the Victoria Glacier makes this destination one of the most popular and photographed sites in the world.

After our visit to Louise, next stop is Banff where in addition to shopping and touring the town, lunch will be provided. On the return trip, you will be given the opportunity to see Bow Falls if time permits.  Please note that the bus ride from the Hyatt Downtown Calgary to Lake Louise is 2 hours each way.

Tour 5 – Drumheller and Alberta Badlands tour                                                     9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.        $95.00

                            

This tour travels through the vast and rich farmlands of Alberta, eastward from Calgary to the Drumheller River Valley. See the Badlands from Horseshoe Canyon, visit the world-famous Royal Tyrell Museum (the Dinosaur Museum) and enjoy the unique scenery of the Horsethief Canyon and the Hoodoos.

Tour includes lunch at the Last Chance Saloon in the Ghost town of Wayne. Please note that the bus ride from the Hyatt Downtown Calgary to Drumheller is 1½ hours each way.

 

Tour 6 – Sulphur Mountain Gondola & Shopping In the Legendary Town of Banff 

                                            9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.        $100.00

Journey to the top of the Banff Gondola to see a whole new side of Sulphur Mountain and the Canadian Rockies. We’ve completely rebuilt, redesigned and re-imagined our mountaintop experience, creating a world-class indoor experience that equals the awe-inspiring ridgetop boardwalk 2900 ft. above Banff. Tour 7 – Jewelry Course – Silversmithing                                                             9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.      $145.00

Make a beautiful double ring with an outside sterling silver ring that spins on an inner bronze ring. Learn to use the correct soldering technique and how to measure and cut a ring blank to make the outer spinning ring the appropriate size. Learn how to use dapping tools to curve the inner ring. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish in this 3.5 hour class. If making a ring for someone else, come with the person’s ring size. All materials included in the fee.  Note that this is considered moderately difficult.

Tour 8 – Hands On Cooking 1 –                                                                                   9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.        $75.00

Take home recipes for your guests. Enjoy appetizers while you cook.  This course includes culinary instruction from a Sunterra chef.

You will be given 4 recipes to prepare which will end with a private buffet style meal.

Tour 9 – “High Tea” at the Famous Banff Springs Hotel Shopping in the Legendary Town of Banff

Gaze upon breath-taking views of the Bow Valley as you join us for traditional afternoon tea in the magnificent Rundle Lounge at the world famous Fairmont Banff Springs. Enjoy a refreshing cup of tea and delectable pastries in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere…   it’s a tradition you’ll quickly adopt as your own. In addition to tea, there will be time to explore the unique shops of Banff.

Tour 10 – Hands on Cooking 2 – Kensington                                                           9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.      $130.00

Our state-of-the-art interactive culinary centre is designed to serve as an ideal learning environment for our hands-on classes. Instructors are professional chefs who enjoy sharing their passion and enthusiasm for great food.

You will also be taking home your apron, recipe booklet and a full belly since the 3 course meal will be prepared and eaten by the participants.

Tour 11 – Lake Minnewanka Boat Cruise & Shopping In the Legendary Town of Banff                   

                                                          9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.      $110.00

Experience the Canadian Rockies from a new perspective while cruising beautiful Lake Minnewanka on a panoramic one-hour interpretive cruise.

You will also be given time to explore and shop in Banff before returning to Calgary. Lunch is provided.

Tour 12 – Calgary Zoo Walking Tour                                                                  9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.        $60.00

                                                                   

As Canada’s most visited zoo, Calgary Zoo was recognized in 2015 by TripAdvisor with its Travellers’ Choice Award. The zoo has also received international recognition as one of the top zoos in the world for conservation research. The tour includes zoo admission, lunch and transit charges.  Note that this is a walking tour making use of public transit (20 minutes each way) so wear comfortable footwear and bring a light jacket or sweater.

 

Tour 13 – Jewelry Course – Beadwork                                                                 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.        $75.00

                                                       

Explore your creative side. This bead working course offers you 2 options:

The first option is a tassel necklace which can be done in a variety of colors.  The actual necklace has jade beads with a jasper focal pendant and silk tassel but can be tailored to your specifications.

The second choice is to do 3 bracelets again to your specifications.

The course will be held in the Hyatt and will be approximately 2.5 hrs in length.  Lunch is included.

 

Tour 14 – Canmore / Kananaskis “Sights n’ Lunch” Tour                                9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.        $80.00

Alberta’s Kananaskis is the Rockies best kept secret. To the southwest of Banff National Park, “K” Country has picture perfect mountain scenery, wildlife and flora.   ‘Legends of the Fall’ and other notable movies have been filmed in the area.  An opportunity for shopping and light lunch in Canmore will be included in the tour.  Please note that the bus ride from the Hyatt Downtown Calgary to Canmore is 1 hour each way.
