Emeritus Award for Outstanding Service

PCIC Award Nomination and Selection Procedure
revised: September 2018

Purpose:

To recognize Emeritus members for noteworthy pre- and post-retirement contributions to the PCIC, IAS, IEEE or the public at large.

Nominated by (PCIC Subcommittee): Emeritus Subcommittee, Approved by A&A

Selection Criteria:

  1. Extraordinary participation in the Emeritus Subcommittee activities at the annual PCIC Technical Conference
  2. Contributions may be technical, administrative or humanitarian in nature
  3. Contributions made after the candidate attains PCIC Emeritus status shall be given primary consideration

Restrictions:

  1. Previous recipients not eligible

Type of Award (Plaque, Framed Certificate):

  1. Engraved plaque provided by Awards Nominating Subcommittee
  2. Award recipient and guest(s) are invited to sit at the designated award recipient tables
  3. Award recipient may request additional complimentary guest tickets to attend the PCIC Conference Annual Awards Luncheon

Nominating Committee Members:

  1. An Outstanding Emeritus Award Nominating Committee (OEANC) shall be appointed by the Emeritus Chair during the annual meeting to consider candidates.
  2. The OEANC shall consist of the last five Award recipients who are still active in the Subcommittee. In the event there are less than five recipients in attendance the Emeritus Subcommittee Chair shall appoint other members who have been active in the Subcommittee for at least two years.

Nomination & Selection Process:

  1. Nominations for the Outstanding Emeritus Award shall be solicited from Emeritus members. Previous recipients shall not be considered.
  2. Forms used to nominate a candidate may be obtained from the Emeritus web site or the Emeritus Subcommittee Chair.
  3. Nominators are encouraged to submit all the detail available to justify the nominee. Nominators should also ensure they capture the humanitarian aspects of the candidate’s experience.
  4. The Outstanding Emeritus Award Nominating Committee (OEANC) shall evaluate the information submitted for all candidates to ensure that they meet the award criteria.
  5. No later than Dec. 1, The OEANC shall then select the most qualified candidate and send that name and justifying data, to the Emeritus Subcommittee Chair for his/her review. If, in the opinion of the OEANC, no worthy candidate has been nominated they may nominate a candidate of their choosing or notify the Emeritus Subcommittee Chair that no suitable candidate is available.
  6. When satisfied, the Emeritus Subcommittee Chair shall submit the candidate’s name and data to the Advisory & Awards Subcommittee Chair, no later than January 10, for review at the PCIC Winter Meeting.
  7. The Advisory & Awards Subcommittee selects and approves the final award recipient at its meeting during the annual Winter Meeting.
  8. The Advisory & Awards Subcommittee Chair will announce award recipients at the PCIC Executive Subcommittee meeting at the annual Winter Meeting.

How will award recipient be notified:

The Emeritus Subcommittee Chair shall notify the successful candidate, after approval by the  Advisory & Awards Subcommittee.
