Outstanding Technical Contribution Award

PCIC Award Nomination and Selection Procedure
revised: January 2018

Purpose:

To recognize dedicated technical contributions to the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee.

Nominated by (PCIC Subcommittee): PCIC Technical Subcommittees, Approved by A&A

Selection Criteria:

  1. Long-term participation and contributions through a combination of any of the following:
    1. Authoring or sponsoring papers for presentation
    2. Presenting tutorials
    3. Serving as a Technical Subcommittee officer
    4. Completing paper reviews
    5. Contributions to Standards development
    6. Contributions to Transactions and IAS Magazine publications
  2. Persons nominated within 3 years of the award year do not need to be re-nominated

Restrictions:

  1. Past recipients of the PCIC David C Azbill Award are not eligible.
  2. Past recipients of IEEE/IAS level technical awards are not eligible. Examples include:
    1. IEEE Richard Harold Kaufmann Award – for outstanding contributions in industrial systems engineering
    2. IEEE Standards Medallion – for major contributions to the development of standards
    3. IEEE Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award – for outstanding contributions to the development and/or advancement of standards in electrical and electronics engineering
    4. IEEE Nikola Tesla Award – for outstanding contributions to the generation and utilization of electric power
    5. IAS Outstanding Achievement – for outstanding contribution in the application of electricity to industry in accordance with the scope of the IEEE Industry Applications Society
  3. Previous recipients not eligible

Type of Award (Plaque, Framed Certificate):

  1. Engraved plaque provided by Awards Nominating Subcommittee
  2. Award recipient and guest(s) are invited to sit at the designated award recipient tables
  3. Award recipient may request additional guest tickets to attend the PCIC Conference Annual Awards Luncheon

Award Recipient Acceptance Speech: None

Nominating Committee Members:

  1. Officers (Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary) of the PCIC Technical Subcommittees
  2. Officers of Technical Program Subcommittee (PCIC Vice Chair, PCIC Secretary)

Nomination & Selection Process:

  1. The Technical Program Subcommittee Chair (PCIC Vice Chair) solicits nominations for the Outstanding Technical Contributions Award from the officers of the Technical Subcommittees (Chemical, Electrochemical & Emerging Technologies, International, Marine, Production, Refining, Safety and Transportation).
  2. Once nominations are submitted, the Technical Program Subcommittee Chair (PCIC Vice Chair) sends a ballot to each of the Technical Subcommittee Chairs. A followup teleconference may be held with the Technical Subcommittee Chairs to discuss the results and to make a final selection.
  3. Once a final selection is made, the Technical Program Subcommittee Chair (PCIC Vice Chair) notifies the Advisory & Awards Subcommittee Chair, PCIC Chair and Awards Nominating Subcommittee Chair of the nominee for review at the PCIC Winter meeting.
  4. The Advisory & Awards Subcommittee selects and approves the final award recipient at its meeting during the annual Winter Meeting.
  5. The Advisory & Awards Subcommittee Chair will announce award recipients at the PCIC Executive Subcommittee meeting at the annual Winter Meeting.

How will award recipient be notified:

The Technical Program Subcommittee Chair (PCIC Vice Chair) notifies the successful candidate, after approval by the Advisory & Awards Subcommittee.
